Australian Wood Duck

Bird Description:

Looking more like a delicate goose than a duck, the Australian Wood Duck (sometimes known as a Maned Duck) sports a brown head, grey speckled body, and soft whistling call. It’s commonly seen grazing on grassy paddocks, parks, and beside farm dams.

Special features:

This duck spends more time on land than in water and nests in tree hollows near wetlands.

Did you know?:

They’re often seen waddling in tight-knit family groups, with fluffy ducklings trailing behind both parents.
