Bird Description:

This large, glossy black cuckoo is heard more than seen — its haunting “koo-el” call echoing through summer mornings. Females are brown with white streaking and bright red eyes.

Special features:

A brood parasite that lays eggs in the nests of other birds like wattlebirds and friarbirds.

Their arrival is a herald of the wet season across northern and eastern Australia — a true sign of summer.
