Bird Description:

Also called the Burdekin Duck, this elegant looking waterbird is white with chocolate-brown wings and a neat pink bill. It walks upright with a waddle and often forages in shallow wetlands. But don’t be fooled by its tuxedo good looks, it can be one of the noisest duck when defending its territory.

Special features:

Prefers tidal flats, mangroves, and freshwater lagoons. Much quieter than other ducks, it often flies in pairs or small groups.

Did you know?:

Though more common in northern Australia, it occasionally makes its way further south to surprise sharp-eyed birders.
