Bird Description:

Common in woodlands and along watercourses, the red-winged parrot is a tropical stunner—males have bright green bodies with vivid red shoulders and electric-blue highlights. Females are similar but with more subdued colours.

Special features:

hey are strong, fast flyers that enjoy feasting on eucalypt blossoms and native fruits and they can cover long distances in search of food. They are often heard before they’re seen, calling out with harsh squawks as they dash through treetops.

Did you know?:

The courtship display of the Red-winged Parrot is very colourful: the male circles the favoured female then lowers his wings to expose the blue patch on his lower back, which is usually hidden. He holds his feathers close to his body and contracts his pupils. (Birdlife Australia)
