Royal Spoonbill

Bird Description:

A tall white wader with a ridiculous but brilliant spatula-shaped bill, sweeping side-to-side like a blindfolded chef tasting soup.

Special features:

Sweeps that spoon bill through shallows to detect prawns, small fish and aquatic insects by touch.

Did you know?:

During breeding they grow long ornate head plumes like white streamers — truly regal.
