Agnes Conservation Community
We protect, conserve and restore the Greater Agnes Region natural environment through advocacy, education and action.
The Greater Agnes Water region is a unique and beautiful place. With the World Heritage listed southern Great Barrier Reef on our doorstep, bounded by Deepwater National Park to the south and Eurimbula National Park to the north, our very special place deserves protection.
In recent years the region has experienced exceptional growth and the beautiful natural features that we all value have experienced the greatest loss.
Our projects
Agnes Development Watch (ADW)
Due to the many developments currently proposed and being constructed in the Agnes Water region the loss of natural habitat is a major concern to the community.
We liaise with relevant stakeholders and provide knowledgeable feedback. We prepare public submissions for developments and activate the community to get involved and have their say.
Local Hands for Nature (LHfN)
Local Hands for Nature provides an opportunity for the community to get involved in restoring the natural areas of Agnes Water and surrounds. From dune revegetation to saving remnant forests from weeds, kids and adults alike can help wildlife in the region by improving their habitats.
1770 Saltmarsh Savers
The 1770 Saltmarsh Savers is a citizen science project that collects data on the health of the region’s saltmarsh.
Saltmarsh monitoring is part of the MangroveWatch Project and provides an opportunity for education and for the community to get involved, whilst advocating for the protection and restoration of saltmarsh.
Saltmarsh is an important ecosystem within the coastal intertidal zone placed between land and saltwater and is regularly inundated by tides. It is important habitat for migratory bird species, fish, crabs and molluscs.
Eco Flicks
We show informative educational films for residents and visitors that showcase the environment, sustainability and all things natural world. These films present current challenges facing our environment and provide solutions that we all can work on to improve future outcomes.
Native plant guide
If you want more wildlife to your garden utilising native species or maybe you want to rid your garden of exotic plant species that are becoming weedy, then this guide will help you. This resource is an ongoing project and will continue to be added to in the future so remember to check back in next time you want to do some gardening.
